April 2005

Night of 27/28 Apr - the mountain was relatively clear of clouds and the glow from the crater flickered away for most of the night. Below are two movies - the first was processed to remove the noise and shows the brightness of the event as seen on the Volcanocam images. The second was processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 26/27 Apr - The glow was visible for most of the night. The moon also illuminated the mountain and the passing clouds. The movie below was processed to remove the noise from the Volcanocam images and slightly enhanced to improve the contrast and brightness.

Night of 23/24 Apr - A moonlit mountain appears from the darkness to reveal clouds and a vigorous steam plume rising into the air. Two bright flashes of activity occurred at 04:08 and 04:48. The movie below was processed to remove the noise from the Volcanocam images and slightly enhanced to improve the contrast and brightness.

Night of 20/21 Apr - there was a considerable amount of cloud blowing around the crater last night, but it cleared long enough to allow a view of a bright flash around midnight. I haven't posted an enhanced movie as the brightness of the clouds overwhelmed the view of the crater. The movie below was just processed to remove the noise and shows the brightness of the event as seen on the Volcanocam images.

Night of 19/20 Apr - the mountain was clear and the glow from the crater was visible all night - just not particularly active. Below are two movies - the first was processed to remove the noise and shows the brightness of the event as seen on the Volcanocam images. The second was processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 18/19 Apr - the glow was active all night, with a major outburst of activity beginning at 02:08 this morning. The outburst was clearly indicative of a major rockslide on the increasingly fractured lavadome. Below are two movies - the first was processed to remove the noise and shows the brightness of the event as seen on the Volcanocam images. The second was processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 16/17 Apr - despite a lot of cloud around the crater the glow did make a couple of brief appearances last night. The movie below was processed to remove the noise and further processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 14/15 Apr - the glow was just visible in the enhanced images from after sunset until just before 02:00 this morning. The movie below was processed to remove the noise and further processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 11/12 Apr - there was a brief outburst of activity at around midnight last night, probably due to the ongoing fracturing of the lavadome. Below are two movies - the first was processed to remove the noise and shows the brightness of the event as seen on the Volcanocam images. The second was processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 09/10 Apr - there was a brief outburst of activity at around 23:30 then the glow was visible until 04:18, when it abruptly vanished from the images. Possibly because it was obscured by clouds cover. Below are two movies - the first was processed to remove the noise and shows the brightness of the event as seen on the Volcanocam images. The second was processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 08/09 Apr - the glow was visible from around 10:00 until about 03:00 this morning. Below are two movies - the first was processed to remove the noise and shows the brightness of the event as seen on the Volcanocam images. The second was processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 06/07 Apr - the glow was visible from just after sunset until approximately 01:00 this morning (when the clouds rolled in again). Below are two movies - the first was processed to remove the noise and shows the brightness of the event as seen on the Volcanocam images. The second was processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 05/06 Apr - the glow was visible for most of the night, with a couple of brief outbursts of activity. the largest one occurring at around 02:30. Below are two movies - the first was processed to remove the noise and shows the brightness of the event as seen on the Volcanocam images. The second was processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 04/05 Apr - the glow was visible from around 22:00 until about 03:00 this morning. Below are two movies - the first was processed to remove the noise and shows the brightness of the event as seen on the Volcanocam images. The second was processed to isolate and enhance the brightness of the glow.

Night of 31 Mar/01 April - The glow appeared at sunset and lasted for only a couple of hours before the clouds rolled in again. There was also some activity just before midnight. The movie below was processed to remove the noise and enhance the brightness of the glow. Note: I did post this movie on 1st April :-)
